Homework:
Homework is given our on Monday and is due back on each day of the week.In the Weekly Parent Letter, I will let you know what the homework is and when it is due. I will go over the homework before the students leave each day. There will be a spelling test each week on Friday. The works will go home on Monday for the students to study. Please help your child with his/her homework, but do not do it for them. Each child needss to read at least 20 minutes each night. Your child should write down what he/she read in the At Home Reading Booklet. Please sign the At Home Reading Booklet each night and send it back on each Friday.
Library:
Second grade students go the Library to check out books every Thursday. The books are checked out for 2 weeks at a time. A book may be renewed but the book must be brought in during Library checkout time.
Computer:
Second grade students go to the Computer Lab once per week in groups of 14 or 15. One group goes on Mondays and one group goes on Fridays.
Physical Education:
Second grade students have PE as a whole class on Mondays and Thursdays.
Music:
Second grade students attend music classes in groups of 14 or 15 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Field Trips:
We hope to go on several fields trips this year. Stay tuned for announcements in my weekly letter as to where we are going and when. Second grade often uses the services of bus transportation due to Oregon State Law that requires students over 40 pounds to use booster seats unless they are either 4' 9" tall or at least 8 years old.
Birthdays:
Birthdays are celebrated on a student's birthday, if possible, at the end of the day. You may bring a treat at 2:45 pm (2:15 pm on Tuesdays). If your student's birthday is during the summer, the parents and I will choose a date for the "unbirthday" celebration.
